Digital education in rural Transylvania

We continue our journey of digitizing education for children in rural Transylvania. For 2 years now we have advanced step by step so that both students and children who do not go to school, have access to education adapted to their needs, to digital learning methods. We digitized the teaching of mathematics with the help of Start NGO, we managed to mediate a donation of 30 computers for the info laboratories in the local school (thanks to Ateliere fara Frontiere and Pentalog), we also made a digital reading club with the help of Start NGO.

Digital education in rural schools: applied sciences taught in 3D in Transylvania

We are now extending digital education to applied sciences. Starting this fall, more than 100 middle school children studying at Laslea and Mălâncrav will use digital textbooks, interactive maps, animations and 3D representations in math, technology, biology and chemistry. The project includes that at least 50% of the class hours, meaning at least 5 hours per week, be carried out with the help of this educational software that will help children ease the transition from abstract concepts to concrete applications in applied sciences.

Rural Transylvania and digital education at school with the help of the Casa Naturii , House of Nature Association

We provide all the equipment of the association (laptop, video projector, whiteboard) so that the applied science classes are digitized, and, if the school goes online, digital education will continue in rural Transylvania.

We dedicate, as usual, our attention of the 5 villages near Sighișoara: Laslea, Mălâncrav, Floresti, Nou Săsesc, Roandola. In our villages, children need to connect exercises, lessons about the human body, information about chemical processes, with concrete visual examples. The 3D educational package we use at the association will help the teacher to stimulate children’s thinking. We intend for this project to continue in 2021 and to extend it to other school subjects.

The project has the support of Laslea Secondary School, our institutional partner.

“Digital education in rural schools” is possible through a grant Start NGO funded by Kaufland Romania and implemented by the Act for Tomorrow Association.
